What to Bring to Your Maternity Photos

When you embark on the beautiful journey of pregnancy, capturing the precious moments through maternity photography becomes an essential part of cherishing this unique chapter in your life. To ensure a successful and memorable maternity photoshoot, it's important to come prepared with a carefully curated selection of items. To assist you in this, here is a comprehensive maternity session checklist of what to bring to your maternity photos.

To ensure you look and feel your best during your maternity photoshoot, it's essential to prepare in advance.  The key elements to help you feel fully prepared include selecting appropriate outfits, considering the timing, and choosing a suitable location for your maternity photos. Outfit Choices: Prior to the photoshoot, consult with your maternity photographer to discuss the desired style and mood you want to convey in your images. Some moms like to bring a variety of outfits, so they have some photos in a flowing dress or form-fitting gown and then a more casual outfit.  For recommendations of my favorite places to shop for maternity dress’s Click here to read my blog post Where to Get a Dress for Your Maternity Photoshoot? Remember to bring undergarments that complement your chosen outfits and provide comfort. Opt for delicate jewelry pieces that add a touch of elegance, but not too eye-catching to distract from you.

Skincare and makeup products: If you're planning to do your own makeup, bring the necessary cosmetics and skincare items for touch-ups or to freshen up during the shoot. One product I highly recommend to bring to any photoshoot is an Oil Removing Stone Roller. If you haven’t heard of them, they are amazing and you just roll it over your oily spots and the stone absorbs the oil to prevent your face from looking shiny in the photos.

Props and Backgrounds: Discuss with your maternity photographer if they provide props and backgrounds, or if you should bring your own. Including props can add a creative and personalized touch to your photos. Some popular options for maternity shoots include ultrasound photos, baby shoes, or baby-related items like onesies or stuffed animals. Another common item expecting mothers like to bring is baby books. Popular choices are Are You My Mother, The Wonderful Things You Will Be, I Am a Big Sister, I am a Big Brother

Comfort and Nourishment: A maternity photoshoot can be an exciting yet tiring experience, so it's essential to prioritize your comfort and well-being. Pack comfortable shoes that coordinate with your chosen outfits, allowing you to move freely and comfortably during the session or to at least use to walk to each location if needed.  Stay hydrated and bring light snacks to keep your energy levels up throughout the photoshoot.

By following this comprehensive maternity session checklist and coming prepared with the essential items mentioned, you'll be well-equipped to make the most of your maternity photoshoot. Remember to communicate openly with your maternity photographer, as they can offer valuable insights and guidance to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Embrace this magical phase of your life, and let your photographs tell the story of your journey to motherhood for generations to come.
